Let me begin by sharing some of my first time ever, doing something failures. I started working in the grocery business back in 1974 at the age of fifteen. I worked in the grocery business for 50 years. Wow! That was a hard number to type. lol
One of the simplest jobs at the grocery store is to be a carry out boy. Now, we would not add the boy to the end. It would be a carry out clerk, courtesy clerk, or a sacker. I can still remember my first day. I was sacking for Alma, she was the most experienced old lady checker we had. She had no problem telling me how to do my job. Over and over again. I didn't think I needed as much help as she was providing.
Do you remember, back in the seventies when pop was sold in glass bottles? It came in a eight pack cardboard container with a handle. I promptly took that eight pack and placed it in the paper grocery sack. (What is a paper grocery sack, you ask?) Paper was what we used before someone decided it would be cheaper to use plastic sacks that we could use to fill up our garbage dumps.
I felt so stupid when she told me that pop does not go in the sack. It has a handle. Duh! I had alot to learn but the great thing was I had a lot of years to learn it. Fifty years of learning to be exact. lol Time was on my side.
